Zucchini and the Fair

The bunnies lagged that zucchini over to the fair this evening, and you won't believe the horror that they heard of. There is a rumor going around that a 400 pound zucchini has been submitted! On the up side, that does mean the rabbits won't get cash to go towards more seeds, but on the down side, they're now planning to hop over for sure to find out how such a big zucchini was produced so they can grow one themselves next year. Really, what is that fair thinking? And even worse, they have their garden selections right next to the judging area for the rabbit beauty contests too! Bunnies will be able to hop over when they're not showing off ear length or cotton like tail appearance on stage! My rabbit siblings are thinking of visiting the beauty show to meet other bunnies and to get a group together to tour the produce displays for ideas!

Zucchini This Evening

The rabbits harvested a zucchini this evening to lag over to the fair tomorrow. It is quite large to say the least, so they ought to have a good shot at winning the prize for biggest zucchini. Of course, the down side of this is that if they get their paws on 100 dollars, they will surely want to spend it on dirt and pots and seeds for more growing. Do you think I should alert the stores not to sell to those bunnies if they come hopping in with large bills?

Giant Zucchini Part 2

The zucchini has grown another inch since the humans have been gone, and I'm very concerned. If this thing can grow an inch in three or four days and the fair isn't for another couple of weeks, I shudder to imagine its size by then. Is any amount of money worth exposure to a vegetable that is so large and suspicious? I think I need to do a house check to make sure all of the neighbors are accounted for.

The Giant Zucchini

The giant zucchini was measured today, and it is already a foot long, with at couple of weeks to go before the fair. In one way, I'm happy, because a really big zucchini will get us a nice cash prize, but on the other hand, I am rather concerned about what the rabbits might be feeding this plant to make it grow so large. I've seen them feeding it milk, but I do have some worries about it's other possible meals. The never did find that criminal from a few weeks ago, you know. I wonder how much growth the average criminal could add to the zucchini plant?

Giant Zucchini

The fair is actually offering a prize for the producing of a giant zucchini. The winner gets 100 dollars. Hmmmm. Okay, the fair IS an insane place to say the least with all of their encouragement of rabbits, but still money is money. Do you think I need to encourage the bunnies to up the plants' feeding schedule to daily? They have one specimen growing out there right now that's getting alarmingly large.

Police Last Night

The police were hanging around here last night, looking for a possible fleeing criminal. That poor, poor criminal. I'm sure he'll be found eventually, or rather his property will be, under a zucchini plant after the bunnies' garden finishes digesting him. It was rainy last night, so they didn't get their feeding, and I'm sure they're feeling grouchy. Do you suppose I might be lucky enough that those police might have spotted the garden and reported it to the proper authorities?

Sixty Ounces

Those horrible plants just had a full sixty ounces of that milk mixture! Oh, our neighbors are doomed, this entire area is doomed! Honestly, what in the world were those rabbits thinking, feeding them so much? Even if those plants actually had powdery mildew, which they DIDN'T, that doesn't require dumping so much of that milky stuff on them, especially since it's known for causing growth. The zucchini are already waist high on the human. Can you imagine what might happen if those blasted things grew any more?

First Zucchini

The bunnies harvested their first two zucchini today, and they were chattering happily about how there are more that will be ready for harvesting soon. Have you ever heard such terrible news in your life? And they're going to be wanting to cook with the blasted things too, which means I will have to deal with bunnies hopping all about the kitchen, and likely hopping on me as they try to find things to make with the horrid fruit of the zucchini plant. I wonder how long it would take to cover the floor with rabbit snares?

Zucchini Flowers

The zucchini definitely has flowers! The rabbits have spotted two flowers that are open on it, and another one looks ready to open at any time. If each flower equals a zucchini, I'm definitely in trouble. And those pesky flowers are rather large already too, which doesn't seem to me to be a good sign. How worried do you think I should be? I saw the bunnies looking up recipes for zucchini bread a bit ago.

The Zucchini Part 2

The zucchini is getting ready to flower, I am very sorry to say. The bunnies reported that they found the beginning of flower buds when they were out there fussing over everything. Oh, flowers are the worst possible thing you can find on a zucchini! It surely means that fruit is imminent, and have you heard that if you keep it picked, zucchini and squash will keep producing? I shudder to think of how many veggies they might end up with considering how many plants they have out. They poked out more squash, tomatoes and cucumbers this afternoon. I so fear for our neighbors' safety.

Wednesday Planting Report

The rabbits moved some peppers, I suspect jalepenos, outside today, along with more cucumbers, a few watermelon and a tomato seedling that was hanging out with the watermelon. How bad of a sign do you suppose it is that many of the tomatoes that they popped out last week have second, third and in a few cases fourth sets of leaves? So many of those tomatoes are of the indeterminate kind, too, which is the delinquent plant of the tomato world. Oh, and all of the cucumbers have second leaves, and many are working on their third leaves. I try not to think of the zucchini, and the squash is growing alarmingly along with the pumpkins. The watermelon looks nice too, in the latest terrible news for our neighbors. I just know it's going to head for their house as soon as it gets a few leaves on it. I just hope they don't have pay per view up there.

Today's Cucumber Report

The cucumbers who moved outside yesterday are looking rather nice, I'm very sad to report. Many of the earlier ones have very nice second leaves according to the bunnies, and they expect the new additions to sprout second leaves soon. They're thinking of mixing something up to serve them a big Sunday dinner tomorrow. The zucchini is getting rather frightening as well, and third leaves are definitely visible. I try not to think of the pumpkin and the yellow squash. Oh, and the twelve larger tomatoes were poked out as well. I wonder if I need to see about a hotel for myself and my cat mom soon. I think it might be safer than staying here and a forced conversion to vegetarianism.

Today's Zucchini Report

The zucchini have their second leaves, and a third set is starting to become visible according to the rabbits. Oh, this is such a bad sign that it's not funny! Once they get second and third leaves, then it's just a matter of time before they start right to work on their invasion plan! The cucumbers are looking suspicious too, and the rabbits swear they've seen the beginning of second leaves. There are 20 of those out so far, and the eighty the bunnies moved a couple of days ago will likely be moving outside over the weekend..

Boy Bunny Revisited Part 2

Here's a photo of that rabbit that I'm sure is a boy when he was poking out some zucchini.




So, what does everyone think? He's still refusing to supply his name, although I've heard my sisters calling him Peter several times. They've tried to convince me they were just talking about their famous ancestor, but I know better.

The Zucchini

The zucchini that the bunnies moved outside is doing very well so far, although I don't like at all the way its little leaves are turned towards the neighbor's house. I think I need to tell my cat mother to keep a bag packed for a possible emergency evacuation. The bowl of cucumbers they moved are doing well, too, and they seem pleased with the tomatoes. Oh, and they swear they spotted a bean sprout yesterday where they snuck some seed into the flowerbed in the front yard.

Bad News for the Neighbors

I'm not sure of how to break this to our poor, misfortunate neighbors, but the bunnies poked more zucchini in the yard today, and they added a bowl full of cucumbers as well. They're lounging around now debating what to feed their plants to encourage faster growth. How worried do you suppose the neighbors should be?

The Time of Doom is Nigh

Three zucchini seedlings were poked outside today. The bunnies claimed one had a droopy stem and used that excuse to poke it out, along with the other two for company. Our poor, poor neighbors. The bunnies think they might poke more stuff out tomorrow. Should I phone the neighbors tonight to let them know the bad news? We do have a neighborhood watch, but I don't think they watch closely enough for things like this.

Flipping their Lids!

The lids are off of all of the plants except a couple of the flowers! They were holding too much moisture in and some plants spoiled, so all lids are off except the ones on the cosmos and morning glories due potential poison issues. What am I going to do? All of those horrible, horrible, squash, pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, watermelon and beans are looking at me suspiciously and I just know that now that they aren't safely locked under their little lids that they're going to get going full force with their plan of conquest! What am I going to do? Only a screen is holding them back from getting into the yard and heading for our poor, unsuspecting neighbors!

Today's Seed Alert

The seed is expanding even more. The bunnies took the lids off of some of the little bowls today to let their little plants stretch out for awhile. Does anyone think I need to phone the neighbors about this? It's all squash, zucchini, watermelon and pumpkin, a frightening amount of them too. They're lounging in the sink right by a window! What if they get out?

Zucchini

More zucchini moved into bowls this evening, I would guess potentially 40+ seedlings. The bunnies promptly put the beans they got today in the baggie, along with a different kind of watermelon, more cucumbers and a handful of beans from a bag of mixed beans they got at the grocery store. Would you believe the store had the nerve to sell them a pound of beans? We are never going to see the yard again, and I suspect the neighbors will start vanishing before long.
